I've done a tiny bit of Authentic Movement, felt great resonance, and am seeking

a) someone (or perhaps a group?) with whom I feel resonance to practice with near the Belmont area (1/2 hour south of SF).

for longer-term exploration, i like the idea of a lay-group rather than a paid, facilitated group per the ones advertised on the Authentic http://www.authenticmovement-usa.com/
website

b) paid coursework options. the coursework at http://www.authenticmovement-usa.com/ seems to be inactive.

c) reviews of the below books:

_x__Offering from the Conscious Body, The Discipline of Authentic Movement by Janet Adler $21.25
_x__Authentic Movement: Essays by Mary Starks Whitehouse, Janet Adler, and Joan Chodorow edited by Patrizia Pallaro. $34.95.
_x__Body and Earth: An Experiential Guide, by Andrea Olsen. $23.00

if book learning is the closest, cheapest, easiest way to dive in, i thought i'd go for it but those of you who've read the above books might feel strongly about one and not another?

i'd be glad to borrow these books too to skim/read. i'd take good care of them!

help create a model summer camp-like program in Mexico

Hey beautiful people....!

SoloMAX here in SF. I’m working on a Black Rock Arts Grant... seeking people interested in gathering in Mexico next winter holidays to develop a model summer camp-like program that will be shared through the web and touring schools with a team.

My goal in life is to make public schools more like summer camps. The method is mission-oriented education, which makes the process of learning an exciting journey into the unknown. Instead of filling heads with information, students seek to discover their powers and find applications for knowledge. The stress of testing and pressure to find a career is replaced by developing passions and building relationships. The reward is a real effect on the community, not just a letter grade. I believe everyone has an action hero in them, and an action hero needs a mission.

The Action Hero Network has formed to foster this education model by providing inspiration, information and helping organize cultural exchange opportunities. Visit www.actionheronetwork.net and look at http://actionhero.tribe.net/ …to see what you have to offer and gain.

Over the past five years, I've been developing a Cultural Exchange Community Center in Mexico and have a great relationship with a very special community that has adopted me like family. This is a unique opportunity that I have been blessed with... and these sweet people are looking forward to meeting you too. visit: www.solomax.com/roblito.html

This place, Roblito, Nayarit, on the Central Pacific coast just south of Mazatlan, has many adventure opportunities: Water(estuary and ocean) for surfing and water skiing, mountains for hiking, horses to ride, fishing, biking... just about anything.... and lots of land to build on for the future.

I visited Roblito again last winter holidays and have images from the trip on my site, starting at: http://www.solomax.com/dec.27.4.html

Getting there is super cheap to fly or bus... costing around $200 from southern US states.
We can stay in the village community or 4km away in our very private camping area. Also, there is a semi-abandoned hotel on a near-by beach that an old lady looks after, and we could rent for almost nothing and use to party like there's no tomorrow.

What I'm looking for.... are other people interested in developing a summer camp program-- the Action Hero Training Camp. Burning Man and Rainbow gatherings are already the most bad ass summer camps.... and the energy from these is changing the world for the better, but there is so much going on at these events... it is hard to focus on creating a program. So... imagine taking the best of Burning Man and Rainbow to Roblito... when the north is cold and wet in the winter... to create a summer camp... where it is warm and we can play on a playa with waves.

The intention is to create annual Action Hero Training Camp from Christmas to March Break, and have it open to families, schools, corporate folk.... anyone who wants to get there freak on and discover their mission. Then... we can get paid to do our thing. But, we need to start somewhere, and that is here and now. If you are interested.... speak up, so I can put your name in the grant. The grant is due Mar. 31, so get back to me ASAP!

There is an authentic movement school that you might be very interested in. It's in Oakland!

I fell in love with Authentic Movement when we did some sessions in a class I took called Body Knowledge and the Creative Process. Authentic movement in a nutshell: people sit around in a big circle with their eyes open. People on the outside are the witnesses. Then, as anyone is so inspired, they close their eyes and enter into the middle of the circle to start moving authentically. There is no music. It doesn't have much to do with dance although if you feel like dancing you surely can. The witnesses watch the movers without judgment. Afterwards, everyone convenes and talks about what they experienced or witnessed. This portion of it reminds me of group therapy. I LOVE authentic movement.

Is anyone here into authentic movement? I'd love to hear your stories and memories.

Oh- and Angela- for the dance therapy program at Naropa, upon entering, students must be versed in three specified movement schools. Authentic movement is one of the options. There is another specialization in the Naropa program which is pure somatic psychology- without the dance.

Hello Creative Arts Folk !

Hey it's great to see such interest in this field !
What a diversity of practitioners !

The main focus of this tribe is the use of the Arts for Healing purposes; including dance/movement, drama, poetry, music, and art therapies.

To encourage more participation in this Creative Arts Tribe,
I make these suggestions for making postings.

Listings : These are good if you have a service to offer, like if you're a dance therapist, and you want to mention where you work and how to reach you. Listings can be good because you can make them a posting seen by people outside the Creative Arts tribe, or you can just put them on the Creative Arts Tribe site.

*** Please consider posting to the new Creative Arts Workers Yellow Pages discussion too ! ***

Discussion : Our main discussion topics so far...

"Introducing Ourselves" -where folks can introduce themselves, and describe their interest in the Arts and therapy field.

"Creative Arts Workers Yellow Pages" - If you are working in the Arts & Therapy field and provide a service, you are welcome to add a description of your services and contact information to that discussion. Please be concise.

"Creative Arts Organizations" If you know of groups which are doing great work in some field of Therapeutic Arts you can post their website address or contact information here as a resource for everyone to see.

* If you are responding to a discussion please click on
"Respond to this post" and your reply wil become part of that ongoing conversation.

Events : Conferences, workshops, classes, educational and training opportunities are great to post here.
You are welcome to post these opportunities if they are Creative Arts Therapies related.

Thanks for your interest !
